I cannot believe that there are photographers out here like this... and believe me I gave my piece of mind. I am aware that this article is not on the focus of women, but I feel that it is just as important in the fight for equality of men and women within our society, especially in regards to the media. When are continually hit up-side the head with advertising, magazines, articles, television movies... etc... that completely objectify women and now as you'll see men, young men. I like to dabble into photography and especially love to photograph other women. When I see these photos of the young men, objectified, I feel an immediate feeling of shock. I truly attempted to see the art behind the idea, but I believe that the photographer defiantly failed to convey the message. When looking at these photos, I'll I could want to do was run up in front of the camera and cover the young Men's bodies with blankets. How can we expect to not have women objectified through the lens if we are doing it to men as well. I hope that the blog response that I posted on Jezebel, continues the fight against these horrific photos... look at them and post.

Wow. I completely agree with you. I understand that sex sells in the business, but there is a line and it was definitely crossed in this instance. Not only are the boys incredibly young looking, but they look so unhealthy. It's disturbing to look at these photographs, I see absolutely no point in them being taken or even thought of.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you! I don't see the point or purpose of these photos. It is unfortunate that an industry feels the need to stoop this low to sell a product.
ReplyDeleteAfter glancing at this website, it disgusted me to see people would do this sort of thing. I, too, did not see th purpose in this pictures. It seemed to me more abuse than anything else. Some of the guys in those pictures looked quite young, too.
ReplyDeleteAdvertising, whether it is using male or female models, seems to be getting more and more disturbing lately. I understand the need to push the envelope and try something new, but its hard to imagine that these kinds of images really sell.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I hope that now adding more male objectification in media isn't seen as "progress."
