About Face

Located under "gallery of offenders" :

I love Marc Jacobs so i was disappointed to see the featured story on his ad using Victoria Beckham as a "product". Selling a product is so ingrained into Hollywood culture that i don't think they thought about how this might be taken the wrong way. As we discussed in class, when you work in the fashion industry (which i have) your "normal" is not the normal of mainstream society. It's similar to how a embalmer would see a dead body as "oh, just another dead body to work on today" were as the average person would be uneasy about preserving a deceased person. If Victoria demanded lots of money for this photo shoot then Marc Jacobs is officially not the brightest crayon in the box, he could have just used someone with slender legs to get his point across. This website wasn't one of my favorites, but navigating through it wasn't too bad either.

  1. Though I have never been part of the industry, I, too, don't seem shocked when I see ad such as the Marc Jacob's one. I am so used to seeing ads like that on t.v. and in magazines that I had to really consider the questions the website pointed out while I was viewing the picture.
